The inspiration for the Brahma chair came from Legchatov's personal experience with meditation. He realized that existing furniture options were not ideal for long periods of sitting in a cross-legged position. With this in mind, he set out to design a chair that would provide comfort and support for meditation practitioners.
What sets the Brahma chair apart is its ergonomic design, which allows for motionless sitting in the lotus position. The chair features a specially designed backrest with a protrusion under the lower back, providing optimal support. Legchatov spent years perfecting the bend and tilt of the backrest to ensure maximum comfort without the need for additional pillows. Additionally, the chair has a wide seat that allows for comfortable crossed-legged sitting, with knees not extending beyond the seat-plate.
The Brahma chair is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing. It is made from bent-glued plywood, foam rubber, and upholstery, making it lightweight, easily assembled, and portable. The legs of the chair are collapsible and attached to the frame with bolts, allowing for easy transportation and storage. The chair's material of choice is solid beech, adding a touch of elegance to any interior.
Since its inception in 2017, the Brahma chair has garnered recognition and accolades. It was exhibited at various prestigious design events, including Salone del Mobile.Milano, Moscow Design Week, and Maison&Objet Paris. The chair was the winner of the National Award "Russian Cabriole" and the Art-League competition in the field of industrial design.
Legchatov's vision for the Brahma chair goes beyond providing a comfortable seat for meditation. He aims to shift the perception of meditation from an exotic activity to a daily practice for physical, psychological, and spiritual self-development. By offering a dedicated meditation chair as an integral element of everyday interior design, Legchatov hopes to make meditation more accessible and mainstream.
The Brahma chair is a testament to the power of design in enhancing our well-being. It combines functionality, comfort, and aesthetics to create a truly unique piece of furniture that caters to the needs of meditation enthusiasts. With its ergonomic design and thoughtful construction, the Brahma chair is a must-have for anyone seeking serenity and tranquility in their daily lives.
Winner of the prestigious A' Design Award in 2022, the Brahma chair has been recognized for its innovative design and contribution to the field of furniture design. The Iron A' Design Award is bestowed upon creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
